People come from
all around to experience of the best Texas hunting in and around Cross
Plains. Set your sights on deer, quail, dove or turkey.
Cross Plains was the longtime residence of author Robert E. Howard,
creator of such famous characters as "Conan the Barbarian." In honor
of this legacy, Cross Plains is host to Robert E. Howard Days and the
Barbarian Festival in Treadaway Park each June. The events include
presentations about Howard's works, dozens of sales booths, singing
and dancing, games, food and more.
Robert E. Howard's home has also been transformed into a museum.
Designed to reflect the living and working conditions of the prolific
author, the home has been restored with authentic furnishings from the
1920s and '30s and a re-creation of Howard's cramped workspace.
